The Mi Note 2, launched by Xiaomi last year, was a powerhouse of a phone. In fact, many critics went on to quibble that the Mi Note 2 - which housed a dual-curved screen and plenty of power under the hood - was a poor man's Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Ironically the Note 7 is history, and the Mi Note 2, the future. Barring some production delays owing to the nature of the smartphone there was nothing visibly wrong with the Mi Note 2 which should technically entail in a successor soon enough.
A new report now suggests that Xiaomi may announce the Mi Note 3 sometime in Q2 this year. The phone would, again, have 3D curved glass on the front as well as on the back. The 3D glass on the front would ease into the 3D glass on the back, giving it a seamless look and feel.
Xiaomi had to incorporate a flexible OLED solution in the Mi Note 2 to make that possible. The middle frame that connected the two surfaces, meanwhile, was made of Series 7 aluminum. The result was two-fold. Since, the phone had a dual curved design on the front, the Mi Note 2 boasted of an almost bezel-less screen resulting in a 77.2 per cent screen-to-body ratio. Secondly, it looked a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge -- or the Note 7 -- especially when it was powered down and was placed on a surface back facing down.
Xiaomi has been a little reluctant to bring its true flagship phones (and other key devices) to India, and the company has been more than vocal about the reason behind it
The next-generation Mi Note 3 will reportedly come with a 5.7-inch display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with whopping 8 gigs of RAM inside. It will reportedly come in 128GB and 256GB memory options. A 4,070mAh battery, is meanwhile, said to p ower the whole thing. The Mi Note 2 came with a 5.7-inch full-HD AMOLED display with a 1080p resolution. The phone was powered by a 2.35GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with up to 6 gigs of RAM under the hood. It came with up to 128GB of internal memory which was non-expandable and a 4,070mAh battery was powering the whole thing.
Reports that claim the Mi Note 3 would be a monster of a phone on release aren't surprising. Last year's Mi Note 2 was no less. The original Mi Note wasn't a slouch either for its time. The question is, should India be excited. Well, not really.
Xiaomi has been a little reluctant to bring its true flagship phones (and other key devices) to India, and the company has been more than vocal about the reason behind it. Some of these phones (and devices) would be too expensive to sell here, and Xiaomi frankly isn't ready to take that road yet. Also, the company has been sticking to its one flagship per year strategy from the get -go in India.
The company is gearing up to launch the flagship Mi 6 on April 19. The Mi 6 has history in its favour and hence the phone will most probably land in India soon enough. Should Xiaomi continue with its one flagship per year strategy here, there's a high probability that the Mi Note 3 may never make it to India. The Mi Note 2, after all, did not come to India. The Mi Note didn't either.
