What to expect from Xiaomi Mi 6 ahead of April 19 launch - India Today


The Xiaomi Mi 6, which is arguably one of the most anticipated handsets of 2017, is finally going to be launched on April 19 after reportedly facing a lot of delays due to Snapdragon 835 procurement issues.

The multitude of leaks and rumours leading up to the launch have helped us get a clear idea of what Xiaomi' s upcoming flagship handset is going to bring to the table. In a market graced by formidable competitors such as the OnePlus 3T, Xiaomi needs to pull out all the stops with the Mi 6.

If the rumours are anything to go by, the Mi 6 looks like a smartphone to watch out for. Here is everything we know about the Xiaomi Mi 6 so far:

Specifications

Xiaomi's upcoming flagship is set to be powered by Qualcomm's latest processor - the Snapdragon 835. With this, the Xiaomi Mi 6 will become part of an elite group of smartphones having the much touted processor from Qualcomm. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and the upcoming Sony Xperia XZ Premium are the only other smartphones that are powered by the SD 835.

Processor aside, the smartphone is set to come with a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, USB Type-C for charging and data transfer and a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button up front.

Two different variants

There are expected to be two different variants of Xiaomi Mi 6 - one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and a high-end version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

Certain rumours also point towards a low-end variant of the device powered by the MediaTek Helio X30 processor, although this seems a bit unlikely.

Design and display

The Mi 6 is expected to come in two different screen sizes. The regular model is set to sport a 5.15-inch display while the Plus model is set to come with a bigger 5.7-inch panel. On the design front, the Mi 6 is rumoured to feature a ceramic body like the one found on the Mi Mix as well as a curved display like one found on the Mi Note 2.

Cameras

On the imaging front, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is set to offer a comprehensive update over its predecessor. The device is expected to come with a 12MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP front camera for selfies. Both cameras report edly support video recording in 4K

Certain rumours also point towards either the Mi 6 or Mi 6 Plus sporting a dual camera array at the back. Past leaks also indicated that the Xiaomi Mi 6 may use Sony's IMX400 camera sensor for its rear camera.

Price and availability

While no solid information is available regarding the price of the Mi 6, reports point towards the Mi 6 being priced a bit higher than its predecessor, at around CNY 2099 (Roughly Rs 20,500).
