iPhone 8 schematics point towards an all screen bezel-less design - India Today

R.I.P Bezels. 2017 will be remembered as the year when smartphone design underwent a fundamental shift with near bezel-less designs becoming the norm amongst flagship smartphones. After the breathtaking Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6, the iPhone 8 is set to join the party with an all new bezel-less design.

2017 marks the tenth anniversary of the iPhone. To commemorate the occasion, Apple is expected to launch a greatly improved device which is set to be a massive improvement over the iPhone 7. The iPhone 8 is set to come with an all new design, wireless charging, an OLED display and more.

A new leak now gives us a greater insight into the design of Apple's upcoming flagship smartphone. Shared by prolific leakster KK Leaks on Twitter, the schematics and renders point towards an all new 'all-screen' design with very thin side bezels. According to the schematics, the iPhone will measure in at 137.54mm tall and 67.54mm wide.

The schematics also point towards the device sporting a 5.768 display which is bigger than the iPhone 7 Plus's 5.5-inch panel. The 2.5D display is rumoured to cover the entire front panel with the side bezels measuring as low as 4mm at their thinnest point.

As expected, the iPhone 8 shown in the schematics is bereft of a physical home button. Apple is widely expected to embed the fingerprint sensor underneath the display in order to free up space for the new display.

However, according to analyst Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company, the company is apparently facing a lot of issues in ramping up yield rates of the new sensor and because of that it might be forced to abandon the radical approach and make d o with a more traditional fingerprint sensor instead.

At the back, we can see a vertically mounted dual camera setup. This design has been doing the rounds of the internet lately and seems to be more or less a given now. According to Ben Bajarin, the position of the LED flash in between the two camera lenses is supposedly to help facilitate 3D features and augmented reality.

Apple is set to release three new iPhones in 2017 - updates to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in t he shape of the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus and also a 'halo' tenth anniversary model called the iPhone 8/iPhone Edition.

Past leaks and rumours indicate that the iPhone 8 will come with an OLED display, an Iris Scanner like the one found on the Samsung Galaxy S8, IP68 dust and water resistance, 3D cameras and a Smart connector for accessories such as a VR headset.
