UPDATE: HTC has issued a press release. The phone will be launched in Russia this month in black and silver, priced at the equivalent of $355 USD.Ever since we showed you the leaked teaser of the HTC One X10 that Evan Blass originally tweeted, we could sense (no pun intended) that HTC fans were getting giddy. Sure, the phone looked like a premium model with its fancy get up, but that wasn't the reason for the wide smiles from the HTC faithful. Those came from the tag line which read "big style meets bigger battery."
For years, HTC had two major issues that fans could not get the company to improve on. One was the rear camera, which has now been greatly improved. The second was the battery. Even on the HTC One (M8), arguably the best smartphone ever made by the company, a much too-small 2600mAh battery was bravely trying to keep the hamster wheel spinning. And yeah, the company did go to 3000mAh on last year's HTC 10, but many large screened flagships now routinely have a juicer containing more than 3000mAh of capacity.
Well HTC fans, it looks like your dreams might have come true. According to a tweet from tipster Roland Quandt, the mid-range HTC One X10 is now official in Russia. On HTC's Russian website, the phone is said to be powered by a 4000mAh battery that will give you nearly two-days of power without charging. The Boost + feature adjusts system resources so that the battery becomes miserly in handing out power. For example, the resolution of the screen will automatically be adjusted for certain games.
The HTC One X10 carries a Gorilla Glass protected 5.5-inch Super LCD display with a 1080 x 1920 resolution, and a 401 ppi pixel density. Driving the device is a MediaTek P10 SoC with an octa-core CPU. 3GB of RAM is inside along with 32GB of native storage (24.53GB available to the user). Those seeking additional storage can use the 2TB capacity microSD slot. The rear camera weighs in at 16MP and features an f/2.0 aperture. The front-facing 8MP selfie snapper comes with an f/2.2 aperture and shoots wide angle pictures.
Besides the massive battery, the HTC One X10 has an Energy Saving Mode, a Maximum Power Saving Mode, and offers fast charging mode (5V / 2A). The all metal case is scratch resistant and can withstand falls and small bumps. The 3D diamond chamfering does not fade even after long term use of the device. A fingerprint scanner is found in back.
While the mid-ranger might not be your cup of tea, there is one good thing to think about while you await the flagship HTC Ocean. If HTC is now willing to shoehorn a 4000mAh cell into a mid-range handset, how large will the battery be on the next flagship?
