Tata Tigor vs Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire vs Hyundai Xcent: price, specs and features - Financial Express


Tata Motors is all set to launch the all new compact sedan Tigor in India on 29th March. It will be a replacement for the brand's entry level sedan Indigo CS. Tata is apparently planning on roping in Linel Messi for pitching the Tigor in the market. Tata is also launching the Kite hatchback sometime before the Tigor. The Tigor is expected to be priced aggressively in order to compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Dzire and other lower variants of the segment. The Tigor will not have any direct competition in the market. It would comparable to the base variants of the Figo Aspire, Dzire and the likes. Before Tata's new compact sedan is made available in the market, following is a comparison with Swift Dzire and Hyundai Xcent on the basis of specifications.

Power

Tigor

The new compact sedan will have options of two new Tata engines – a 1.2 petrol unit that is expected to produce 85 PS and about 110 Nm of peak torque. The other option is 1.0-litre turbocharged diesel unit that would develop under 70 PS of peak power and about 140 Nm of peak torque. Expected mileage figures of the diesel engine is 25 kmpl.

Swift Dzire

The Swift Dzire is powered by a 1197cc K-series petrol engine that makes 83.1 hp and 115 Nm of torque, and a turbocharged 1248cc DDiS diesel engine which produces 73.9 hp and 190 Nm of torque. The engines come paired a five-speed manual gearbox and an optional four-speed automatic for the petrol variant.

Xcent

The Xcent comes in three engine options - 2nd generation 1.1L U2 diesel unit with 5 speed manual, 1.2 Kappa dual VTVT with 5-sSpeed manual and 1.2 Kappa dual VTVT 4-speed automatic. The 1.2L Kappa unit develops 81.8 hp and 113.7 Nm of torque, while the diesel variant comes with a 1120cc engine that makes 71 hp and 180.4 Nm of torque.

Tigor

On the outside, the Tigor will be quite different from what Tata cars like the Indica and Indigo CS have been for years. The new car will definitely have sharper design elements. Especially, the rear end of the Tigor will more of a fastback. The Tigor gets blacked out headlamps with projector lights, fog lamps and ORVM integrated LED turn indicators. It will also get wraparound LED tail lamps and a roof mounted stop light.

The cabin will come equipped with Harman touchscreen infotainment system with eight speakers, AUX, USB, Bluetooth connectivity, and it will support Android smartphone-based navigation. Other features steering mounted controls, electrically adjustable ORVMs, day and night Inside Rear View Mirror (IRVM) and others.

For safety, the Tigor gets disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. It will also be available with ABS with EBD, 3-point seatbelt as well as dual front airbags.

Swift Dzire

The Swift Dzire comes with front fog lamps and black tinted headlamps in its higher variants. Internally adjustable ORVMs are manual in the base model. The windscreen gets a green tint in all variants.

On the inside, the Dzire comes with a engine start/stop button in the top-end variant. Steering wheel mounted audio and phone controls too are only offered in the top trim. All variants get remote keyless entry. The car has ventilated discs in the front and drum brakes at the back, and ABS and reverse parking sensor is also on offer.

Xcent

The Xcent gets blacked out B-pillar, chrome garnish at the rear, chrome door handles and wraparound tail lamps. It gets full wheel covers for variants that don't come with alloy wheels. On the inside, the Xcent offers dual-tone interior colour and blue illumination.

The stereo system comes with AUX, USB and bluetooth connectivity in higher variants. The car also gets a cooled glove box and rear AC vents. For safety, the Xcent gets ABS, rear defogger, driver and optional passenger airbags

Price

The Tigor is expected to be priced aggressively at about Rs 5.5 lakh for the lower end variant. If Tata does manage to keep the prices low, the Tigor will likely be a stiff competition to base models of Swift Dzire and Xcent. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire comes within a price range of Rs 5.35 lakh – Rs 8.58 lakh. Prices for the Hyundai Xcent start at Rs 5.44 lakh for the base trim and stretch to Rs 8.08 lakh
