It's been a long wait for Android users who wanted to get their hands on Super Mario Run and the wait is almost over. Nintendo was clear the game would be hitting the Google Play Store in March and now we have a more specific release date -- March 23rd -- this coming Thursday. The big question remains though: Did Nintendo do anything to fix the issues of the iOS release?
According to the tweet by Nintendo announcing the release date of Super Mario Run for Android, the version being released to the Play Store will be v2.0.0. **Update: sounds like v2 will add new playable characters, at least.** Unfortunately, we don't know whether the update will also be released for iOS users around the same time. iOS users have been fairly mixed on the game, saying it can be fun, but also that the $10 price tag is too high for a game with limited replay value. Also there was frustration around the requirement of an internet connection as an anti-piracy measure. All of that has added up to the game only having a 3-star rating on iOS.
We fully assume that v2 for Android will continue to require an internet connection and will likely also be free-to-try with a $10 unlock cost. The real question is whether version 2 will change the gameplay at all. Nintendo has said it won't be adding content to the game, but they could still tweak the game to fix issues, or even lower the cost. We'll have to wait and see.
What changes would you like to see coming to Super Mario Run?
