Lenovo's Yoga Book 2-in-1 has its fair share of ups and downs. Love it or hate it, there's simply no ignoring it. The Yoga Book is without a doubt, a gadget straight out of the future. But, it's also a little expensive for what it brings to the table, especially for someone who's hard-pressed about paper specs. Lenovo has an answer for that in the new A12, a 2-in-1 which is as futuristic as the Yoga Book but comes at (only) half the price.
The A12 looks exactly like the Yoga Book, which means the centre of attraction, here, is Lenovo's characteristic Watchband mechanism where the hinge resembles a long section of the strap of a wrist watch. The magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis of the A12, much like the Yoga Book, screams out premium from every nook and corner. The pre-attached keyboard, or Halo, has (also) been designed with the same level of craftsmanship.
The Halo can be seen as a capacitive screen, only it works like a keyboard and a full backlit one at that. At the touch of a button, the Halo keyboard on-board the Yoga Book transforms into an open canvas. The possibilities are thereon, endless, literally and figuratively. This is made possible through the Yoga Book's Real Pen stylus and Book Pad accessories.
The keyboard performance is comparable with an actual physical keyboard, claims Lenovo. Moreover, its performance can improve within 2 hours of usage, as it (quickly) adapts to your typing pattern. It also learns with time, and offers auto-correct and typing suggestions, similarly. The A12, is however (quite obviously) a toned down version of the Yoga Book in terms of hardware specs. It comes with a 12.2-inch HD display and is powered by an Intel Atom x5 processor coupled with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal memory. The A12 is based on Android and runs Lenovo's multi-tasking hybrid UI. The 2-in-1 comes with a pair of Dolby Atmos-powered speakers and a battery which is claimed to las t for up to 13 hours on single charge.
The Lenovo A12 has been priced at about $300 (which roughly translates to Rs 20,162) and will be available for buying from February 8 in the US.
