A Samsung promo for the Exynos 9 chipset (which includes the Exynos 8895 that will be found inside the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in most regions) hints at a rear-facing dual camera setup for a Galaxy handset in the near future. The chipset includes support for Dual ISP (Image Signal Processing) which is used on smartphone cameras to handle multiple tasks related to colors, Autofocus, Autoexposure, HDR, noise reduction and more.
The promo shows how the Dual ISP work on two separate camera lenses. Does this mean that there will be a Samsung Galaxy S8 model sporting a rear-fa cing dual camera setup? That might be a stretch only because Samsung is under terrific pressure this year to deliver a phone that doesn't turn into a torch. This is arguably Samsung's most important and heavily scrutinized smartphone launch ever, and there is no reason to make matters more difficult by adding an additional camera on back. Samsung's motto this year is KISS (Keep it Simple, Stupid).
However, this doesn't mean that a third Galaxy S8 model with a rear-facing dual camera setup won't be released if everything runs smoothly after three months or so without incident. Or, Samsung could be looking at employing a second camera on the back of the expected Samsung Galaxy Note 8. After all, the next Galaxy Note phablet will no doubt be powered with the same Exynos 8895 chipset under its hood.
