China's ZTE is all set to launch a phone -- called the Gigabit -- so fast you won't actually be able to use it. For now, that is. ZTE's Gigabit Phone that the company will officially launch at the upcoming MWC will offer blazing fast connectivity at 1Gbps, or more precisely called as gigabit LTE speeds. Problem is no telecom carrier in the world supports gigabit LTE yet. It is, but, a peek into the future.
Not that the world hasn't been toying around with the idea. Only recently, Qualcomm announced the first device to be capable of supporting gigabit LTE, the Netgear Nighthawk M1 mobile router, along with Telstra, NETGEAR, and Ericsson in Sydney. The device featured the Snapdragon X16 LTE modem - announced previously in early 2016 - inside for Gigabit LTE connectivity.
Qualcomm has also announced that its next flagship Snapdragon 835 processor - that would power the next-generation of flagship phones from the likes of Sams ung - will include the gigabit LTE-capable X16 modem, which is a big upgrade over the previous X12 modem (that supports up to 600 Mbps maximum download speed) inside its current-generation flagship chips.
ZTE has remained tight-lipped about the other specifics of its Gigabit Phone. In fact, it has said nothing at all. All we know, for now, is that the Gigabit Phone will be able to make 360-degree VR and 4K video possible on the move. Also, the phone will allow for instant cloud storage and will focus on 5G and what the company calls as the Internet of Everything.
ZTE, in addition, is also looking to launch a string of mobile devices in its mid-tier Blade line-up at the upcoming MWC event that starts from February 27 in Barcelona, Spain.
