Motorola Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus leak out: design, specs, and features now known

MWC 2017 is just around the corner, and Lenovo-owned Motorola is expected to unveil not one, but two new devices there — the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus. We've been hearing rumors and gossip about this duo for a while now, but a recent leak courtesy of Brazilian online retailer KTronix is giving us the full scope of specs and features that might be of any interest to us.

But before we go on a tantrum and list out all the specs that got leaked, we should probably spend some time talking about the 5" Moto G5 and the 5.2" G5 Plus' design. Those two are now employing smaller displays than their predecessors, and as a result are both smaller and thinner. Those are one-upping last year's Moto G4 and G4 Plus exterior by borrowing the round camera/flash element from the Moto Z Droid and the Moto Z Force Droid, as well as substituting the squircle home button for an oval one, which still houses the fingerprint scanner. Both devices are made of metal that has been diamond-cut and bead-blasted. Additionally, the two phones are splash resistant, which means that they will survive a mild drizzle, but dunking them in water will lead to their untimely demise.

As far as specs go, here's what we will most likely be able to find inside either the Moto G5 and the G5 Plus:

We find it a bit odd and disappointing that the G5 Plus might come with only 2GB of RAM on board, which is a bit lowly in comparison with most entry-level and lower mid-range devices out there. Hopefully, Motorola will revise that with a follow-up version of the phone with more operational memory on board and come up with a 4-gig version, similar to last year's Moto G4 Plus. Additionally, it seems that the Moto G5 will be sporting a removable battery, which is a rarity these days and will let users interchange batteries on a whim.

No info on the pricing and availability of these yet, but we bet they wouldn't be that more expensive than last year's G4 and G4 Plus, which cost $199.99 and $249.99, respectively. We will get to know more about the pricing come February 26.
