Motorola and Nokia both launched affordable smartphones in Barcelona - the Moto G5 and Nokia 5, respectively. They have one significant common denominator - the use of the Snapdragon 430 SoC. The new Moto and Nokia smartphones also come with decent specifications and fall in the affordable category, inevitably becoming competition for each other. Both the companies will also compete with several other smartphone makers, as the mid-range segment is overly crowded with many smartphones to choose from.
Here, we pit the Moto G5 and Nokia 5 with the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime, as Xiaomi is a big contender in the mid-range segment, and the Redmi 3S Prime comes with really good specifications at a very affordable price. Here's how they fare against each other on paper.

The Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime was launched in August 2016 at Rs 8,999. The Nokia 5 and Moto G5, in comparison, have only just been launched, and haven't arrived to India yet. The Moto G5 will start at EUR 199 (roughly Rs. 14,000) for the 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage, and the Nokia 5 has been priced at EUR 189 (roughly Rs. 13,500).

The Nokia 5 has the largest display at 5.2 inches, with the other two at 5 inches. However, resolution-wise the Moto G5 wins with a full-HD resolution, while the other two offer HD resolutions. As we mentioned, all the three smartphones run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC. The Redmi 3S Prime offers a 3GB RAM, and so does the Moto G5 (but at a slightly higher price). The Nokia 5, in comparison, only offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The Redmi 3S Prime offers 32GB of storage, and the Moto G5 comes in 16GB and 32GB offerings (latter for a slightly higher price tag). In any case, all of them offer memory expansion via a microSD slot (up to 128GB).

All three sport a 13-megapixel rear camera with flash suppo rt. At the front, the Redmi 3S Prime and Moto G5 have a 5-megapixel camera, while the Nokia 5 amps it up with an 8-megapixel selfie camera. The Redmi 3S Prime packs the highest battery at 4100mAh, the Nokia 5 comes in second at 3000mAh, and the Moto G5 falls short with a 2800mAh battery.
While the Nokia 5 and Moto G5 run on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat and Android 7.0 nougat respectively, the Redmi 3S Prime runs on the dated Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow (based on MIUI 7). All the three phones offer dual-SIM support (Nano-SIM for Nokia and Motorola and Micro-SIM for Redmi 3S Prime).

All the three smartphones sport an elegant metal design. The Moto G5 also has a removable battery for easy replacement. The fingerprint scanner of the Nokia 5 and Moto G5 is situated in the front underneath the Home Button, while the Redmi 3S Prime has it at the back.
The smartphones look good on paper and h ave specific areas that they are good at than the other two. However, it should primarily boil down to the price tag when it arrives in India, as the Redmi 3S Prime offers great specs at a really affordable price point. The Nokia and Motorola phones run on the latest software, giving them a slight advantage than the old Redmi 3S Prime.
