Major leak seemingly reveals the real Samsung Galaxy S8, rear fingerprint scanner included

Samsung is expected to announce its Galaxy S8 family of smartphones in March or April. While we've already presented many leaked images and details related to the upcoming device(s), it appears that we can now take a look at the very first photo that's showing a real Galaxy S8.

The photo comes from Venture Beat and Evan Blass (aka @evleaks - famous for revealing, over the years, many new smartphones before being officially announced).

Repo rtedly, Samsung will release two versions of the Galaxy S8: one with a 5.8-inch screen, and one with a 6.2-inch screen. Both displays will be slightly curved at the edges, as seen on the Galaxy S7 edge and S6 edge. It's said that the 5.8-inch Galaxy S8 packs a 3000 mAh battery, while the 6.2-inch model has a 3500 mAh one. The handsets should feature 4 GB of RAM and at least 64 GB of expandable storage space. In the US, the Galaxy S8 family will almost certainly be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor.

Surprisingly, it looks like the Galaxy S8 features a fingerprint scanner on the rear, next to its main camer a. That's because Samsung decided to eliminate its trademark home button that's housed on the front of older flagships. A previous rumor had it that the fingerprint sensor would be embedded into the display, but that's not the case.

Apparently,

All screen on the front, fingerprint scanner on the back

the absence of a physical home button allowed Samsung to increase the screen-to-body ratio to 83% - this means that the new handsets are significantly smaller than regular 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch phones.

A USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headset jack are situated at the bottom of the Galaxy S8. Dust- and water-resistance are, unsurprisingly, also on board.

It's not clear if the Galaxy S8 seen above is the 5.8-inch, or the 6.2-inch model. In any case, the two phones should have the same design, and Venture Beat reports that they're expected to go on sale on April 21. We're looking forward to seeing if Samsung confirms all this in the coming months.
